Dr. Seuss's classic 1954 book Horton Hears a Who has entertained generations of children and served as the inspiration for a 26-minute, 1970 television special Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who and the 2000 Broadway musical Seussical: The Musical. This 2008, full-length animated movie features the voice talents of Jim Carrey as Horton, Steve Carrell as the Mayor of Whoville, Carol Burnett as the Kangaroo, and Jesse McCartney as JoJo and promises to delight a whole new generation of children and their parents and grandparents. The technological wonders of computer animation have allowed 20th Century Fox Animation to bring to life the wacky, colorful Whoville with its minute inhabitants and the lush Jungle of Nool with its host of distinctive animals and the result is a rich, fantastical world of wonder worthy of Dr. Seuss' own imagination. All the major plot elements of Dr. Seuss' book are present, with Horton hearing the faint cry for help from a tiny dust speck atop a small clover and doing his best to protect the inhabitants of that small civilization of Whoville despite the disbelief, disdain, and persecution of his fellow animals. The feel of Dr. Seuss' original rhyming prose is partially preserved in the sparse narration by Charles Osgood that's interspersed throughout the film's dialogue and the overarching themes of staying true to one's convictions and the celebration of the power of perseverance, imagination, and kindness come through loud and clear. Horton Hears a Who is a fun rendering of a classic Dr. Seuss story that's sure to entertain viewers of all ages. --Tami Horiuchi

Horton Who???? (2008-12-30)
As an adult I had mixed feelings about this release. The CGI was was fair to good and it was somewhat of an entertaining movie , but it was too long for a Seuss movie. They dragged the story on-and-on but once again I am an adult now, a child would probably love this title. I think this is a for sure to-rent title. If you have young-ones around the house, maybe you should go ahead and buy, they will probably want to watch it over-and-over again.
Special ed. misleading! (2008-12-29)
Am I the only one who was suckered by the 2-disc special ed.? Since Amazon
no longer gives any details about the contents of each disc, we're pretty
much in the dark about what we're getting. I assumed there would be special features on the 2nd disc, not that it would be the digital copy only. Many titles are marketed with digital copies but this is
the first one I've seen that's been so misleading. So I paid extra for a 2nd disc which I won't use. Buyer beware!
No Audio Output From Blu-ray Version (2008-12-26)
Warning to those with older Receivers. This Blu-ray disk only has a DTS audio soundtrack in English. If you have a Receiver, like I do, that only decodes Dolby Digital 5.1, there is no audio output.
The rest of this review is for the clueless producers of this Blu-ray disk. Obviously they have learned nothing from the costly lost sales of the war with HD-DVD. People like me are not going to buy an expensive new Receiver just to play a particular movie on Blu-ray. Especially with six audio formats to cover and perhaps more to come! I will rent this movie on DVD and wait for the audio wars to end. Since Blu-ray has plenty of capacity, I do not see any reason why an English Dolby 5.1 soundtrack could not be included to ensure backwards compatibility. Particularly since Dolby 5.1 is already provided on this disk in other languages. From reading various blogs and reviews, I know I am not the only potential lost sale.
Great Movie to show off your Blu Ray Player & HDTV!!! (2008-12-26)
This is a great movie (picture wise) to show off that LCD or Plasma HDTV!!
The story of the actual movie is great as well as it will make you think about the bigger picture in life!
The cast of characters are pretty funny as well!
Overall just a fun movie, and worth it just for the quality!!
